The Phantom of the Opera is the longest running and highest grossing entertainment enterprise of all time. It is a Broadway musical based on a French novel by the same name. Created by Andrew Lloyd Webber, The Phantom of the Opera is a beautiful thrilling story full of romance mystery and tragedy. It is the tale of a young soprano singer Christine Daae, who attracts the attention of a ghost who lives in the crypts and catacombs beneath Paris’s famous opera house – the Opera Populaire. Little does anyone know that the so-called opera ghost is actually a musical genius, architect, designer, composer and magician in hiding because of his disfigured and hideous appearance from birth. The Phantom, because of his hatred for everyone terrorizes the opera house. He wears a mask to hide his face because of the cruelty, shame and disgust which he is faced with, should anyone ever see him.
When the soprano chorus singer Christine comes to rehearse at the opera house, the Phantom develops an attraction towards her and he sees that with the right training she has the potential to become famous. She is also drawn towards the Phantom but is scared at the same time because he haunts her in the day and while she sleeps haunts her dreams. The Phantom threatens the opera house to give her more and more lead roles; so much so that he starts terrorizing the performers. His pranks turn deadly when he almost crushes the opera’s lead singer Carllota with the stage canopy, who resigns soon afterwards. This gives Christine an immediate rise to stardom.
The plot takes a twist when Christine falls in love with a former acquaintance Viscount Raoul de Changy, and breaks the heart of the Phantom who has fallen in love with her. Seeing no other way to keep her from marrying Raoul, he resorts to kidnapping her in his desperation. Raoul is the only one who can stop the Phantom. This leaves Christine with a choice between her love Raoul and her strange attraction for the Phantom of the Opera.
