For anyone who remembers the hit 60s rock and roll group the Four Seasons, they just have to go and watch the hit Broadway musical Jersey Boys. Even if you aren’t familiar with the band or the musical, it is an award-winning must-see Broadway production. The Four Seasons was one of the most successful rock and roll groups of the 1960s and the documentary-based musical follows their story. From the troubled life of the lively and melodious singer and frontman Frankie Valli to the career of the band and their rise to fame, the Jersey Boys has it all in one fine performance.
The musical features John Lloyd Young as Frankie Valli, Christian Hoff as Tommy DeVito, Daniel Reichard as Bob Guadio and J. Robert Spencer as Nick Massi. It is directed by Des McAnuff who is the artist director at La Jolla Playhouse. Jersey Boys has won many accolades and successes. The Jersey Boys Broadway show has won the Tony Award for Best Musical overall and also for Best Actor in a Musical, Best Featured Actor in a Musical and for Best Lighting Design of a Musical. Other awards include the Theatre World Award, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical, the Drama League Award for Distinguished Production of a Musical and the Grammy Award for Best Show Album.
The Jersey Boys musical show opened on October 5th, 2004 at the La Jolla Playhouse and on November 6th, 2005 at the August Wilson Theatre. Unlike other conventional musicals, it is part concert and part Jukebox musical, but a hundred percent fun. So much so that when it opened, it smashed the box office and took over $400,000 the day it opened. The Jersey Boys theatre tickets get sold out almost immediately. Broadway theatre tickets can be booked beforehand, or online and there are many sites offering discounted theatre tickets and cheap tickets to the Jersey Boys Broadway musical show.
Owing to this huge response, the Jersey Boys North American tour began on December 10th, 2006 at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco after which there was no stopping it and it premiered at Ahmanson Theatre, then on to Chicago’s LaSalle Bank Theatre all through 2008. Besides that, they have had productions in Las Vegas on May 3rd, 2007, at the Palazzo Hotel. Jersey Boys made their debut in London’s the West End at the Prince Edward Theatre on February 2008. It was a smashing success there and welcomed with open arms. Benedict Nightingale from The Times said, “Oh What a Night. There were times when I felt that the performers were making even the Beatles sound somewhat lacking in musical texture.” On 26th January 2008, it was announced that there would be an Australian production too at the Princess Theatre in Melbourne somewhere around March in 2009.
